Smokey Purple Eye Tutorial

I was so excited to get my new Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV (what a mouth full) in the mail the other day! I got it on sale from urbandecay.com that ended up coming out to only $29!!! That is a total steal in my book and I usually let my one splurge be on eyeshadows (I'll tell you more later) So, in case you haven't heard of this Book and why it is so amazing....

"This much-awaited collection of 16 neutral, smoldering and vibrant Eyeshadows (10 never-before-seen!) features a Book of Shadows first – a portable speaker and how-to videos revealing five new looks that we created exclusively for this palette. In this phenomenal cache, a range of shimmery hues flash subtle brilliance while glittery shades tempt the eye. White, taupe and nude tones cast an ethereal glow, alongside pale greens and blues with the sheen of sea glass. Wear these airy shades to elevate a wide range of day looks, and then create smudged and deeply shadowed nighttime effects with this palette’s array of deep blacks, greys, browns, purples and greens. Also included are a full-size 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, a travel-size Eyeshadow Primer Potion and a travel-size Supercurl Curling Mascara.
Instantly download five how-to videos to your phone! All you need is a camera and a web browser to scan our QR (quick response) codes. And there’s an added bonus: a portable speaker that delivers big sound. The sleek, purple device easily attaches to your keychain so you can whip it out whenever you demand better sound from your phone and MP3 player." source

Are you intrigued yet??

Yes, this retails for $65, but I couldn't pass it up for $29 with the sale and a coupon I had. The fact that this came out during the holidays is awesome! I think it probably made an amazing gift for any makeup lover. I definitely was not planning to buy it, so if it wasn't for the sale/coupon I would not be writing this blog :) I do, however, feel that if you are going to splurge on something, have it be eyeshadow. I don't think any other cosmetic product is really worth it (in my opinion of course!!). Eyeshadows can really vary in pigment when you get to the lower end items. BUT, that does not mean that all low end shadows are crappy. I think ELF, Revlon and even most Wet n' Wild products have great pigment. It is just more hit or miss with them. With Urban Decay you know you are going to get some bomb eyeshadows no matter what :)

Drugstore Alternatives:
I also used the new Maybelline Color Tattoo line in this tutorial as my purple base! They have some really beautiful matte cream shadows that say they last for 24 hours. I'm not sure if that is true because I don't usually keep my makeup on for 24 hours straight :p I bought these when they were on sale for BOGO 50% off at RiteAid, so it came out to be around $6 each. I think you can pair that purple up with the new L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe for the crease and WAAALAAA! You have the same look for a lot less :) But hey, you can use pretty much any purple/brown color for this look - lets be serious :p

Thanks so much for stopping by!
